The number of voluntarily spoiled ballots in Cambodia’s elections on 23 July is something to look out for. A sizable number of spoiled ballots will indicate a protest against Candlelight not being allowed to stand. The National Election Committee released this data in the past: over 600,000 spoiled ballots at the previous national elections in 2018 when the CNRP was not allowed to take part. We will have to see if the NEC will honestly release the relevant figure for 2023.
